TCU's offensive line was a main component in the Horned Frogs championship run in 2023. The unit stayed healthy and produced consistent results, allowing head coach Sonny Dykes and Co. to succeed through the air and on the ground. The Frogs' top two offensive lineman, however, are heading to the NFL draft: Alan Ali and Steve Avila. Both were named First Team All-Big 12 members for their efforts protecting quarterback Max Duggan and paving the way for running back Kendre Miller.

With offensive lineman Brandon Coleman, Garrett Hayes and Andrew Coker returning, the Frogs have solid depth. What they don't have, however, is a top talent similar to Avila or Ali. Can Alabama transfer Tommy Brockermeyer be dominant for the Frogs out of the gates? Brockermeyer, a 247Sports five star recruit out of All Saints Episcopal High School, didn't receive consistent opportunity at Alabama, playing two games in 2022 as a backup after redshirting in 2021. Brockermeyer was the Dallas Morning News' No. 1 recruit in the Dallas area in 2021. Now that Brockermeyer is back in his home state of Texas, he may have an opportunity to showcase his skills and gain collegiate experience. - Dallas Morning News

TCU's elite ground game was crucial in the Frogs' run to the national championship in the 2022-2023 season. Running back Kendre Miller led the way, tallying 1399 yards and 17 touchdowns while averaging a whopping 6.2 yards per carry. Miller was consistent, scoring a touchdown in every contest until leaving the Fiesta Bowl with a knee injury. The star Frog running back tallied over one hundred yards against seven teams: SMU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, West Virginia, Texas Tech and Texas. With Miller declaring for the NFL draft, there is a huge opportunity up for grabs in head coach Sonny Dykes' offense. Will the ground game continue to dominate with new faces involved?

Who will be the Frogs' starting running back? The Frogs will have a new starting running back, but who will it be? Dykes has a few solid options with redshirt sophomore Trent Battle, senior Emani Bailey, freshman four-star Cameron Cook and Alabama transfer Trey Sanders. Battle was recruited as a quarterback, but his elite speed and athleticism allowed for a position switch. As a running back, he has a better shot of receiving playing time and making an impact on the offense. Battle did not play a single game in 2021, keeping his redshirt status. In 2022, he played in four contests and received a total of nine carries. Is 2023 Battle's year to shine? Time will tell, but he'll still need to compete for snaps with Bailey, an experienced veteran who averaged 8.1 yards per carry on 31 attempts in 2022, and Sanders, 247 Sports' No. 1 running back in the class of 2019. - Dallas Morning News

On Instagram, TCU running back Kendre Miller announced he is declaring for the 2023 NFL draft. In 2022, Miller tallied 1,399 yards and 17 touchdowns while averaging 6.2 yards per carry. For his stellar season, Miller was named to the All-Big 12 First team. Miller finished his career with 11 games of 100 or more rushing yards, more than double than anyone on the active roster. In 2022, Miller had a streak of five consecutive outings with over 100 yards.

This season, he extended his rushing touchdown streak to 14 consecutive games before it was snapped in the Fiesta Bowl due to injury. It was the longest active streak in the nation and second in TCU's history; Horned Frog legend LaDainian Tomlinson holds the program record with 15. Miller will finish his career ranked ninth on TCU's all-time rushing touchdown leaderboard. His career yards per carry average of 6.7 ranks first among active power five players. - Dallas Morning News

TCU star running back Kendre Miller officially declared for the 2023 NFL draft on Monday. Quentin Johnston also declared for the NFL draft and should be among the first receivers taken in the draft. Johnston caught 60 passes for 1,069 yards and six touchdowns. He was voted the Offensive MVP of the Fiesta Bowl. Johnston had four games with at least 100 yards in 2022 and had over 2,000 career receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. Both are top-10 in TCU history. - Fort Worth Star-Telegram

TCU star running back Kendre Miller officially declared for the 2023 NFL draft on Monday. Miller posted a video to his Instagram, which included a thank you to TCU fans. Miller was one of the best running backs in the country and was a first team All-Big 12 selection. The junior rushed for 1,399 yards and 17 touchdowns, averaging 6.2 yards per carry. He scored a touchdown in 13 straight games this season.

Miller, who missed the national championship game vs. Georgia with a knee injury, is likely to be one of the top running backs picked due to his blend of size and speed. The 6-foot, 220 pound back led one of the most explosive rushing attacks in the country and had a carry of at least 50 yards in four games this season. In his three year career with TCU Miller rushed for over 2,400 yards and 26 touchdowns. Miller is the latest Horned Frog to declare for the NFL draft. - Fort Worth Star-Telegram

TCU wide receiver Derius Davis declares for 2023 NFL draft...Davis thrived as a kick and punt returner for the Frogs in 2022, winning Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year. He's scored a touchdown in four different ways: rushing, receiving, punt returning and kick returning. Davis finished his collegiate career with five punt return touchdowns, the most among active FBS players. Against Texas Tech on Nov. 5, Davis broke KaVontae Turpin's program record with a 82-yard punt return.

As a receiver, Davis tallied nine touchdown receptions and 1,513 yards in his career as a Frog. His greatest tool was his speed; the Horned Frog receiver reached 23.47 miles per hour against SMU, a number that tops most NFL receivers. Speed isn't his only asset; Davis, with a 5-10, 175 pound frame, can bench squat 550 pounds and bench 370. - Dallas Morning News

On Friday, TCU linebacker Dee Winters announced on Instagram he will declare for the 2023 NFL Draft. Winters, a team captain, played a huge role in defensive coordinator Joe Gillespie's 3-3-5 defense. His speed and lightning fast decision making allowed the Frog linebacker to consistently make plays; Winters' performance in 2022 earned him First Team All-Big 12 honors.

In the Fiesta Bowl, Winters intercepted Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy and took it all the way to the house. The game changing play, along with three tackles for loss, earned Winters the Fiesta Bowl Defensive MVP Award. In his career, Winters tallied 246 tackles and 33.5 tackles for loss, the most of any Frog on the 2022-2023 roster. This season, Winters averaged .97 tackles for loss, fifth in the Big 12 Conference. - The Dallas Morning News

TCU received a commitment from another talented offensive player that can be a key contributor in 2023. Oklahoma State transfer wide receiver John Paul Richardson announced his commitment to TCU via Twitter on Wednesday. Richardson, the son of former Texas A&M quarterback Bucky Richardson, tallied 503 yards on 49 receptions, averaging 10.3 yards per catch for the Cowboys in 2022.

He finished the season averaging 38.7 yards per game, 25th in the Big 12 Conference. Against the Horned Frogs, Richardson recorded 51 yards on five receptions and a touchdown. Richardson is the third wide receiver to commit to the Frogs via the transfer portal; Alabama transfer WR JoJo Earle announced his commitment on Dec. 5 and LSU WR Jack Bech announced his on Dec. 18. - Dallas Morning News

TCU offensive lineman Steve Avila is entering the NFL draft. The consensus All-American announced his decision on Tuesday, a day after the Horned Frogs fell short in the national championship game against Georgia. Avila was the first Horned Frog to be a consensus All-American since wide receiver Josh Doctson in 2015.

Avila was a team captain and anchor of an offensive line that paved the way for one of the nation's most prolific offensive attacks. The First-Team All-Big 12 selection was also Honorable-Mention Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year and didn't allow a sack in 477 pass blocking during the regular season. Max Duggan has already declared for the NFL draft and it's expected Quentin Johnston and Kendre Miller will be declaring soon. - Fort Worth Star

TCU is committed to the run. It produced 206.5 rushing yards per game, 20th in the country, and perhaps that helps prevent the Frogs from becoming one-dimensional against Georgia. But TCU won't win the game Monday with methodical offense. It's simply too difficult to consistently sustain drives against Georgia. But connecting on deep plays could give TCU a fighting chance. That conversation begins with Quentin Johnston, Duggan's top target who is a projected first-round NFL draft pick in April.

Johnston had 163 yards against Michigan, and he'll need a similar showing against Georgia. Johnston, perhaps TCU's most talented individual, has 1,066 yards and six touchdowns this season. "What's great about him is not only his ability to get on top of the deep balls, but his ability to extend plays and get yards after catch," Bulldogs co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann said. "On deep balls, we have to win our fair share and get him cut off, not let him get on top of us because he has great speed. Duggan does a great job putting the ball out there for him to run under it. Georgia has not faced a quarterback this season like TCU's Max Duggan, whom the Bulldogs will try to contain in Monday's College Football Playoff Championship game at SoFi Stadium. "He's unique," Georgia co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann said Saturday. Schumann started rattling off Duggan's video game-like stats: more than 500 yards on designed runs and more than 150 on scrambles. Because yards lost on sacks are subtracted from a quarterback's rushing totals in college football, Duggan officially has rushed 127 times for 461 yards and eight touchdowns. While his legs are good, his arm is even better. He's passed for 3,546 yards and 32 touchdowns, with only six interceptions.

Though Georgia has faced Ohio State's C.J. Stroud, another Heisman Trophy finalist, and talented signal-callers such as Spencer Rattler, Anthony Richardson, Hendon Hooker, Jayden Daniels and Will Levis, Duggan stands alone. "There's a reason he's a Heisman finalist, right?" Schumann said. The Bulldogs haven't done well in their past two games facing skilled quarterbacks. Stroud almost single-handedly led the Buckeyes to an upset Dec. 31 in the Peach Bowl CFP semifinal with his passing and running. Had wide receiver Marvin Harrison not left the game near the end of the third quarter because of concussion protocols, Georgia's players and coaches may not have been sitting in a chilly L.A. Convention Center on Saturday answering questions about Duggan. Georgia co-defensive coordinator Will Muschamp said 14 of Ohio State's 41 points came from scramble plays when Georgia didn't do well enough rushing the quarterback or covering the receivers downfield. Battling a sprained knee, standout TCU running back Kendre Miller will be a game-time decision against Georgia in the College Football Playoff title contest on Monday. Miller suffered the injury in the first half against Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl. While he told reporters Saturday that he was improved and that it will be a 50-50 decision, he did not actively participate in the Horned Frogs walk-through after media day.

"We'll continue to try to see where he's at," TCU coach Sonny Dykes said. "To me in the next 24 hours is when obviously we'll have to make a determination, have a pretty good idea on what he's going to be able to do going into the game Monday. We're still optimistic that he's going to be able to play." Miller leads TCU with 1,399 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns. If he can't play, his backup is Emari Demercado, who ran for a career-high 150 yards against Michigan. "We want him to be very effective," Dykes said of Miller. If there's one thing Georgia coach Kirby Smart knows it's defense. The former protege and defensive coordinator for Nick Saban is one of college football's top defensive minds and heading into Monday's national championship game vs. TCU, Smart is bullish on the Horned Frogs' unique 3-3-5 defense. "Coach (Joe) Gillespie does a hell of a job," Smart said of TCU's defensive coordinator Sunday. "It amazes me the job he does consistently even from Tulsa. We played Cincinnati a couple years ago, and Tulsa by far and away did the best job against Cincinnati. And we became enamored in that when he was doing it then." Gillespie has successfully transitioned TCU from Gary Patterson's style to his own in just one year. It hasn't been flawless, but the Horned Frogs have improved across the board in his first year leading the defense.

Gillespie said he wanted his players to master the defense back in August. As TCU prepares for game 15, he's pleased with the progression he's seen the unit take towards that goal. "Well I think we've come as close as we can," Gillespie said. "We can do a lot of things now from a defensive standpoint. They have so many experiences now, so many games, so many notches under their belt. It's been a constant installation through the course of the season. Now when you start making adjustments it comes very fast to them." The speed of understanding adjustments in real time translates onto the field, where Smart was impressed with the quickness and tenacity the Horned Frogs play with. "Take all the scheme part out. It's how you play and strike people," Smart said. "When you watch them strike blocks with hat in hands and the speed with which they play downhill and just strike people, it's a beauty. It's a thing of beauty to myself because I enjoy watching really good defense. And they play it. And it's very unique." - Fort Worth Star

For all the chatter about TCU's prolific passing, its offense starts with the run game. But that element might be weakened in the national championship due to running back Kendre Miller's injury. Miller, who ran for 1,399 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, will be a game-time decision Monday after sustaining a knee injury in the Fiesta Bowl. TCU is a two-touchdown underdog against Georgia, so it can't afford to be short-handed. Miller was an underappreciated contributor to one of the nation's top offenses. "We're still optimistic that he's going to be able to play," coach Sonny Dykes said Saturday. Miller will go through warmups before the parties decide.

If Miller is limited or can't play, the Horned Frogs will rely heavily on Emari Demercado, who ran for 150 yards on 17 carries against Michigan in TCU's last game. His success quelled some concerns given he produced against the country's seventh-ranked rushing defense. Georgia has the No. 2 rush defense nationally, surrendering 80 yards per game. TCU promises its game plan won't change if Miller misses the game, largely because of its confidence in Demercado, whose final collegiate game will be in his hometown of Inglewood, Calif. The Frogs also have Emani Bailey and Trent Battle. "We believe in Emari," offensive coordinator Garrett Riley said. "We believe in the rest of the running back group.
